Works with Moodle™
Your Moodle™ courses, inside Claude, ChatGPT or any AI.
UniAGI is a Chrome extension plus a read-only MCP server. It reads the Moodle™ course site you already sign in to and lets any MCP-capable AI read your own copy. Nothing for your university to install, no token to request, nothing ever written back.
UniAGI reads the Moodle™ course site you already sign in to and lets any MCP-capable AI — Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code, VS Code or an agent you built — read your own copy of it: courses and weeks, the text of slides and readings, assessment briefs and rubrics, deadlines, marks and your markers' feedback, staff announcements. Every reply is cited to the slide or page and dated to your last sync. Nothing is ever written back.
There is nothing for your university to install, no plugin, no web-services token to request and no password to hand over. The extension works inside your own Chrome, with the Moodle session you already have.
Why connecting an AI to Moodle is usually hard
Most ways of connecting an AI assistant to Moodle go through Moodle's web-services API. That needs a token only a site administrator can issue, or a plugin the university installs and configures, so a student cannot set it up alone. UniAGI takes the other route. A Chrome extension makes the same read requests your browser already makes on the course pages, using the session you already have, and copies what you can already open into your own encrypted UniAGI account. Your AI then reads that copy through a standard MCP server, with OAuth 2.1 and one consent screen, in whichever client you use.
How to connect
-
Create your UniAGI account with your email address (a six-digit code, no password), install the UniAGI Chrome extension and pair it from your account page.
-
Sign in to your Moodle course site in the same Chrome, as you always do. The extension syncs your courses and deadlines within minutes, and every 30 minutes while Chrome is open. Turn on materials sync if you want the text of your files read too; it shows you what will leave your browser first.
-
Connect your AI.
- Claude (web, desktop, mobile): Settings → Connectors → UniAGI → Connect.
- ChatGPT (Plus, Pro, Business or Edu): add UniAGI as a connector.
- Cursor, Claude Code, VS Code or an agent you built: add UniAGI as a remote MCP server; it opens the UniAGI sign-in.
Everywhere, approve what your AI may read on one consent screen: courses & weeks, materials, assessments, marks & feedback, announcements. Each category has its own switch.
The full steps, what to ask and what to do if something looks wrong are in Help & setup.
What your AI can read
- Courses & weeks — your enrolled courses and how each is organised.
- Materials — the extracted text of slides, readings and other files you can open, cited by slide or page.
- Assessments — briefs, due dates, submission status and rubrics.
- Marks & feedback — your own gradebook and what your markers wrote.
- Announcements — staff posts, with who wrote them and when.
Every reply says when the copy was last synced, which courses and categories were read, and what is listed but not readable — a scanned file, a video, a category you did not approve. A partial copy is never presented as "nothing due".
What it never does
- No write tool exists. It cannot submit work, post in forums, enrol, message anyone or start a quiz attempt.
- Quiz questions, answers and attempt pages are never fetched.
- Only your own data. Other students' work, participant lists and anything you cannot open yourself stay out.
- No credential leaves your browser. The extension has no permission to read cookies; the session key is used in-browser for the same read calls the site's own pages make and is never stored or sent to us.
- UniAGI's servers never contact the university. The copy is made in your browser and encrypted with a key that unlocks only for your account.
Which Moodle sites work today
UniAGI is paired to each campus's Moodle site and tested there before it is offered. Today that is one campus in Sydney, Australia; more are added as we pair them. Join the beta and name your campus.
Will my university know?
Yes, if it looks. Every request the extension makes carries the header X-UniAGI-Client: uniagi/<version> (+https://uniagi.com.au/campus), the request budget is compiled into the extension and published, and collection
can be stopped within 30 minutes of a message being read. The page for university IT is For universities.
Not a Moodle plugin
UniAGI is not a Moodle plugin, is not listed in the Moodle plugins directory and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Moodle Pty Ltd or any university. Moodle™ is a trademark of Moodle Pty Ltd, used here only to say what UniAGI works with.
Questions
- Can I connect ChatGPT to Moodle with UniAGI?
- Yes. Install the UniAGI Chrome extension, sign in to your Moodle course site as usual, then add UniAGI as a connector in ChatGPT (Plus, Pro, Business or Edu). ChatGPT reads your own synced copy through six read-only tools and says when it was last synced.
- Can Claude read my Moodle courses?
- Yes. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors, find UniAGI and press Connect, then approve what Claude may read. It works in Claude on the web, on desktop and on mobile, and in Claude Code.
- Do I need a Moodle web-services token or API key?
- No. Tokens for Moodle's web-services API can only be issued by a site administrator. UniAGI does not use that API. The extension makes the same read requests your browser already makes on the course pages, with the session you already have.
- Does my university need to install or enable anything?
- No. There is no plugin, no admin setting and nothing to approve. The extension runs in your own Chrome; UniAGI's servers never contact the university. The traffic is transparent: every request carries a header naming UniAGI and linking to uniagi.com.au/campus.
- Can it read my marks and my marker's feedback?
- Yes, if you approve the marks & feedback category on the consent screen; it has its own switch. The extension reads only your own gradebook and feedback pages, never another student's, and your marks are never pooled or used to train anything.
- Does it work with the Moodle mobile app?
- The extension runs in Chrome on a laptop or desktop. Once your copy is synced, your AI can read it from any device, including Claude's mobile apps and ChatGPT on your phone.
- Is UniAGI an official Moodle plugin?
- No. UniAGI is not a Moodle plugin, is not in the Moodle plugins directory and is not affiliated with Moodle Pty Ltd. Moodle is a trademark of Moodle Pty Ltd, used here only to say what UniAGI works with.
