Canvas · in development

Your Canvas courses, inside your AI. Next.

Canvas support is in development and is not available yet. Today UniAGI works with Moodle™ course sites. Here is how Canvas will work, what will stay the same, and how to be first on your campus.

Status: in development. Canvas support is being built and is not available yet. Today UniAGI works with Moodle™ course sites. This page says how Canvas will work so you can decide whether to wait for it.

UniAGI is a Chrome extension plus a read-only MCP server. It lets any MCP-capable AI — Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code, VS Code or an agent you built — read your own university course site: courses, the text of your materials, assessment briefs and rubrics, deadlines, marks and feedback, announcements, each reply cited to the slide or page and dated to your last sync. Canvas is the next platform.

How Canvas support will work

Canvas gives every student a personal access token (Account → Settings → New access token). UniAGI will use yours to read your own courses and nothing else. The token is stored encrypted with a key that unlocks only for your account; you can revoke it in Canvas at any time, and Delete my data destroys the key and every copy.

How you hand UniAGI that token — pasting it, or letting the extension create it for you — is being finalised, so the set-up steps will be written here when they are fixed.

What stays the same

  • The same six tools, all read-only. Study overview, list courses, course outline, search, fetch, upcoming deadlines. No write tool exists: it will not submit, post, message anyone or start a quiz.
  • The same consent screen. Courses & weeks, materials, assessments, marks & feedback, announcements, each with its own switch.
  • The same honesty. Every reply dated to the last sync, naming what was read and what is missing.
  • The same clients. Claude on the web, desktop and mobile; ChatGPT connectors; Cursor, Claude Code, VS Code and any MCP SDK, through one MCP endpoint with OAuth 2.1.
  • The same privacy. Your copy encrypted per account in Sydney, Australia; never pooled, never used to train a model, never read by a person at UniAGI.

Questions

Does UniAGI work with Canvas today?
Not yet. Canvas support is being built now. Join the beta on the home page, name your campus and write Canvas, and we will send one message when it opens. Moodle™ course sites work today.
Will I need a Canvas API token?
Canvas gives every student a personal access token (Account → Settings → New access token). UniAGI will use yours, read-only, for your own courses only; it is stored encrypted with a key that unlocks only for your account, and you can revoke it in Canvas at any time. How you hand it over — pasting it or letting the extension create it for you — is being finalised.
Will the Canvas version be read-only too?
Yes. The same six tools, each marked read-only, and no write tool anywhere. It will not submit, post, message anyone or start a quiz, and it will never collect quiz questions or other students' work.
Can I connect Claude or ChatGPT to Canvas some other way right now?
Several open-source Canvas MCP servers exist that run on your own computer with your token, mostly for desktop clients. UniAGI will be a hosted connector instead: it works in Claude on the web and mobile and in ChatGPT connectors, every reply is cited and dated to your last sync, and your copy is encrypted per account. Check your university's policy before connecting any third-party tool.
What about Blackboard, Brightspace or another platform?
Not yet. Tell us on the beta form which platform your campus uses; that is how we decide what comes after Canvas.
